The Aftermath
I finally got the courage to fuck with the laptop and my PC so I could attempt to salvage the mp3s off them. (Yes, I finally decided I was more or less tired with what I had)

At 4:30 AM, when I was going out to get a snack, I noticed my dad was up, so I asked for the thumb drive.

Then I booted up the laptop.

Ten minutes later, it said it didn't have enough memory to boot up, so it tried again.

Ten minutes later, I was in. But couldn't get INTO anything. I quickly learned that some horrible virus decided to do one last lapdance on the laptop.

Nothing would open. NOTHING. Not even My Computer.

I went into the task manager and found that 100% of the CPU was in use, no matter what programs I terminated.

Considering it took me about five minutes to terminate a process, I just said "Fuggit" and decided it was a lost cause.

All the art's gone, all the mp3s are gone. Oh well. It'll be formatted one day, and then I can use it when I need a windows machine.

My PC still works as long as I don't try to access the internet on it, so I'm currently copying my mp3s over from it. Considering I've got like ten gigs worth and I can only transfer about 200 megs at a time, I'll be here a while. No, I'm not being discriminating.

I'm still pretty sad I'm losing a lot of good mp3s from my laptop, simply because they were awesome songs. Songs like Moskau, and We Are Rockman. Sniff.

Oh well.

My PC had some winners, too.

What's going on with your laptop actually sounds similar to what's happening with my PC. Before you reformat it, I'd say see if there's a way you could set up the harddrive as a slave drive to another computer so you can access the files remotely and get them that way.

When you catch me online next, we'll have another music trading party, okay? Just toss me titles you want/need, and I'll see what I've got.

It won't boot up in safe mode for some reason.

Really, it's no big issue. I don't NEED the files, and I'm not going to burst into sobs if I have to wipe them.
